Mama Rev. Winfred E. Wanguba

EARLY LIFE
Mama Reverend Winfred Ephalina Wanguba was born on 25th September 1934 to the late Mzee Abuti and the Late Mama Rosebella Luchera of Shianda Village, Butere. She was the last born in a family of six children. She led a christian life and grew up as a very focused obedient and respectful young person. She accepted Christ as her personal saviour at 19 years of age.
EDUCATION
Mama Winfred joined the then Butere girls in 1949 and sat for her exam in 1952. She passed and was admitted to Chadwick college in 1953. She successfully graduated as a teacher in 1954. She began her teachig in 1955 and retired in 1987, a career spanning 32 years, having taught in various schools all over the country. At the time of her retirement at Butere primary, she was renowned for her hard work, discipline and commitment.
MARRIAGE
Mama Winfred got married in holy matrimony in 1957. She was a daughter in law to Mzee Wesechere and Ann Kalerwa. The couple was blessed with seven children, Shadrack Wesechere, Prof. Naomi Shitemi, Albert Maende, Florence Mmbwanga, Jemimah Maina, Andrew Otsieno and Festo Olang'. Mama was a mother in law and was blessed by many grandchildren. She kept the whole family together and supported each one of them to the best of her ability. She embraced the message of the fear of the Lord, peace and togetherness. As a mother and a grandmother, mama devoted her entire life to her doted children. Having lost her husband, Arch-Decon Charles Henry Wanguba, in 1980, she single handedly struggled to educate them to university level. She was a pillar to her family.
MINISTRY
Mama Winfred was a dedicated Christian; she committed most of her time and resources to the needy and less fortunate. She actively participated in church activities. She served in the Mothers Union diligently as the 1st Secretary in the Diosesan Mothers Union committee of Maseno North Diocese. She also served in various capacities as coordinator and chairlady of the Mothers Union of Butere Diocese between 1995 - 1999 and 2000 - 2006.
She was ordained as a priest in 1992 and served in Butere Parish and Eshiyiro Parish. She dedicated most of her life in ministry and served with a lot of humility. She feared the Lord and was a doer of what she preached. She also practiced what she preached by going out of her way for the sick, widows, orphans and the needy. She educated and took care of many.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Mama actively involved herself in community service and was a member of Board of Butere Boys Secondary School. She served as a treasurer of Butere Primary School committee, which she did with lots of dedication and sacrifice. She belonged to various social groups:-

- St. Abigael MU, Shitaha
- Tusonge Mbele Women Group
- Wilinde Women Group
- Marenyo Cooperative Society among others
HEALTH
Mama wa generally of good health until 1999 when she was diagonised with hypertension and diabetes. She wa admitted to Kakamega Provincial General Hsopital where she was treated and discharged and continued to well under regular medical management.
In the year 2009, she suffered a stroke and that was the beginning of the deteriorating health and since then she has been in and out of hospital. She suffered a second stroke and she was admitted in Eldoret, later moved to Langata hospital and then finally Kenyatta National Hospital where she was admitted on 19th July 2012 and underwent two major operations. Her health deteriorated even further until she succumbed on 25th August 2012. Mama suffered for long but fought bravely and kept holding onto the Lord. She lived for 77 years, 11 months and 29 days.
